1) Never tire of watching models bravely stomp their way towards a sea of menacing sounding DSLR's, it's like rapid gunfire people. 2) Hugs with one of my favourite ladies Mel from Flourished and Sunkissed 3) Just because we're at fashion week doesn't mean we don't appreciate the finer things in life, like icecream. 4) Laser show at Blesse'd Are The Meek. 5) Accidentally capturing beautiful shots like these 'ghost models' made my day. 6) Lisa Ho gown at the MAC Cosmetics event. 7) And another icecream appreciation shot
Wow, wow, wow. What a crazy, busy, whirlwind week I've had! In case you somehow missed the memo I spent all of last week in the city attending Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, and what a week it was! Five days, 18 shows, 6 outfits, 48GB worth of photos and way too much money spent on overpriced food in the rocks. I haven't ever really had the opportunity to immerse myself in the world of fashion so it was really interesting to get inside the machine and see how it feels to be on the other side of the glass looking out. It was interesting hearing some of the comments from waiters/waitresses who worked in nearby cafes, they seemed simply astonished at the mountain of colour and clacking heels that had suddenly exploded on the OPT. I was really glad I got to attend this year because rumor has it 2012 was the last year that fashion week will be held at the OPT in the centre of the iconic Circular Quay. I don't know why they would move it because the view we were gifted with everyday of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House was simply stunning, I think even the most hardened Sydney-siders couldn't help but be impressed.
As much as I did enjoy the experience though, there were definitely downsides; sore feet and lack of any food within a reasonable price range was one, but the biggest downer was the fact that the event as a whole didn't seem as 'chummy' as I had expected. Don't get me wrong, I made some wonderful friends, but on the whole some people seemed downright unfriendly and I had to resist the urge to run around and scream at everyone 'Stop looking so damn serious guys, we're not ending world hunger here!' If I ever get to the point where fashion stops being exciting I think I will quit the industry, but for now I am still reeling from the stunning collections and feeling very privileged to have attended such a major Australian event. I have slowly but surely been adding my favourite looks and a short little review for each show I attended on our special tumblr so head on over there, and keep checking for new posts every day. If you can't be bothered looking on our tumblr never fear, I'll be posting little wrap up posts here (Didn't think you were avoiding it that easy did you?)

Great pics :) Love the ice cream ones, makes me want an ice cream right now! haha!
ReplyDeleteShame it wasn't as friendly a week as it could have been though.
I love the picture of you laughing, it's so reflective of your fun and bright personality. I felt blessed to have met you and I do understand exactly what you mean about the downsides of the week. I think I learnt a lot about what I DON'T want to do in the industry, rather than what I do want to do. Hard to explain. But hopefully I will be down in syd again soon so we can catch up and talk further. Thanks again for being so lovely and welcoming. You are a gem. x
